History

Formerly the Shamrock Motel & Cottages, the grounds of Paddler's Rest have served as lodging for travelers and adventurers alike, for over 110 years. Originally owned by the famed Adirondack guide, Mitchell Sabattis, the earliest property records indicate the first homes as being built in the 1870’s. In fact, the beautiful Houghton House was built by Mitchell's son, Issac, in 1880. The first Hotel, “Sullivan’s Inn” was built in 1910. After it was destroyed by fire in 1932, the property was redeveloped as a Motel and Cottages and has remained within the Sullivan and Touchette family for over 100 years, most recently under the careful ownership of Beate and Tim Touchette. As welcoming hosts, they have made the Shamrock Motel & Cottages into a favorite destination that has been carefully maintained for the enjoyment of generations of visitors. We are grateful to Beate and Tim Touchette as we plan to take their lessons in ownership and care to heart under the new name of Paddler's Rest.
